Episode 12

A big black carbwas driving slowing through the narrow alley.

Ling and Qiluo watched it on the balcony,

"They are fools, aren't they? Such a big car. Why do they drive it into the alley?" Ling said.

Ajen appeared next to Ling.

"Wow. So, your family is in the business of organized crime!" Ajen said to Ling.

The car arrived at Ling's home.

One of the employees came to open the door for Ling.

"Where's my father?" Ling asked the employee.

"The master said he would be home late today. Welcome back." The employee said to Ling.

"Let's go. Qiluo." Ling said to Qiluo.

Ling and Qiluo entered the living room

"Young master, do you want to sit here for a little while or go straight upstairs?" One of the maids asked Ling.

"Then, Take the luggage upstairs first." Ling said to maids. The two maids left.

Qiluo looked around the living room.

"What is it, Qiluo?" Ling asked Qiluo.

"I feel like being locked up. I'm beginning to understand a little bit why you don't like it here." Qiluo said. Ling nodded.

"Let's go." Ling turned to leave and said to Qiluo.

Ling and Qiluo walked down a flight of stairs, following the two maids

"Ling, why is your house so big?" Qiluo and asked.

While they walked, Ling paused and stared at something.

"What are you looking at?" Qiluo asked.

"Nothing. Let's go." Ling said.

Ling and Qiluo entered Ling's suite.

The two maids were putting away their luggage and getting things ready for them.

"This place doesn't look like your room at all." Qiluo said to Ling.

"They redecorated the room after I returned from the psychotherapy hospital. I don't like it. But the doctor says that a clean style was better for patients like me." Ling said to Qiluo as they walked up a flight of stairs to his sleeping area.

"Young master, call me if there's anything more you need." The maid said to Ling.

"Okay." Ling said to the maid. The maid bowed and went downstairs.

Ling sat on the bed. Qiluo looked around the sleeping area.

"Your father must really value you. You're not at home for a long period of time. He still keeps such a big room. It's obvious he really wants you to come back." Qiluo said to Ling.

"In terms of rooms he keeps, he has lots of them." Ling said to Qiluo.

"Is Sheng's room still here?" Qiluo sat next to Ling and asked. Ling turned to look at Qiluo.

"Can you take me to look at it?" Qiluo asked. Ling didn't say a word.

"If it's too much trouble, forget it. It's okay." Qiluo said.

"No. It's no trouble at all." Ling said, shaking his head.

"Let's go. I'll take you there. Let's go." Ling stood and said.

Ling and Qiluo walked in the hallway.

"Over here." Ling pointed and led the way out of the building.

"So just then you were looking at..." Qiluo said.

They walked over a bridge to another section of the mansion.

Qiluo was looking around.

"Wei." Ling called her.

Ling and Qiluo entered the building where Sheng's room is.

"Where we live now was built later. The part is the old builfinh we originally have. Now only my father lives here. My mother's and Sheng's rooms are all here." Ling said to Qiluo.

Qiluo leaned against the stairway railing.

"Wow. It's so high." Qiluo said, looking downward.

"Sheng's room is at the attic at the top. He picked it himself." Ling said.

They started climbing upstairs.

Ling opened Sheng's room.

"Come in." Ling said and went into the room.

"Since Sheng died, no one has ever been to this room." Ling said.

Ling stood in front of a pair of slippers.

"Still the same. It is exactly the same as that day before went to classes. Nothing has changed." Ling said.

"These are all you. Are they all painted by Sheng?" Qiluo said, looking at a portrait of Ling.

"Previously Sheng often asked me to be his model. Maybe because it was convenient. I was just by his side. At the beginning, I thought it was fun, so I posed casually for him. As time went by, I found he never stopped. Also, I started getting tired of it. After that, I don't like people use me as a model for their paintings." Ling said as Qiluo looked through Sheng's paintings.

"And I kept asking you to model for me. It must have been award for you." Qiluo said to Ling.

"This is what love is. Do you understand?" Ling said to Qiluo.

Qiluo picked up a painting.

"If Sheng were still alive, he would be definitely working harder learning painting." Qiluo said.

"Wei, are you listening to me?" Ling said.

"So your father wants me to continue paining. It must be because he thinks Sheng would be doing the same thing if Sheng were still alive. So he hopes that I won't give up." Qiluo said.

"How strange? It seems that you think everyone is a good person regardless of what kind of person he is." Ling said, spreading his arms wide.

"Actually your father is really kind." Qiluo said.

"That's right. Anyway it's a waste of tome to talk to some one with the Electra complex like you." Ling said.

Qiluo raised her head and looked at Ling.

"What did you just say?" Qiluo asked.

Ling turned and looked at Qiluo.

"Did I say anything? I didn't say anything." Ling said and laughed.

Ling walked to the bedside and crouched down.

He put his hand under the bed and fumbled for something.

"What are you searching for?" Qiluo asked.

"I've found it." Ling said and pulled out an album.

"I was looking for the album. Do you want to look at it?" Ling said and sat down on Sheng's bed.

"I want to." Qiluo said. Ling gave Qiluo the album and Qiluo sat down next to him. Qiluo opened the album.

"So cute! How old were you two?" Qiluo said.

"This picture... We were about 8 or 9 years old." Ling said.

"How about this picture?" Qiluo asked.

"12 years old." Ling said.

"Do you know which one is me?" Ling asked.

"Of course. This is you. This is Sheng." Qiluo said.

"You really know." Ling said.

"This is what love is. Do you understand?" Qiluo said. Ling pressed Qiluo's head lower teasingly with his hand.

"Magic, isn't it? Somehow I can see the difference. Although I've never met Sheng and the two of you look so much alike, I just know that you two are different." Qiluo said, looking at the album.

"This picture..." Qiluo said and showed Ling a picture. Ling took over the picture.

"Xiaoyan. Our real father." Ling said.

"Is this the picture you gave to Sheng?" Qiluo asked.

"Indeed you look alike." Qiluo said.

"Is it? You can feel the same gene." Ling said.

"He's really your father. You really look so much alike. Moreover, you have the same temperament and habit." Qiluo said, looking at the picture.

"Look. When you smile, both of you arch the left eyebrow a little bit." Qiluo said to Ling, showing him the picture.

"No wonder. My mom said the same thing when she saw me. Every time she said I looked very much like my father. So this is what she was talking. Even a little thing like this made her think of that dead person." Ling said.

"I think your mother must have really loved the man in the picture. She loved him so much that she could remember those tiny things. They must have loved each other very much regardless of the situation. So they had you two born." Qiluo said.

"Do you want to look at other rooms?" Ling asked.

Episode 12 (Part 2)

Ling brings Qilou to his mother’s room.

“This is my mother’s room.” He turns on the lights.

Qiluo, looking at a painting on the wall, “Is this your mom?”

”Yeah, I think it was done before she gave birth to us,” answered Ling.

”So beautiful.” Qiluo said.

”Aren’t paintings supposed to be painted prettier than the person itself?” Ling asked. “Come on, let’s take a look over here.”

”My dad can’t let it go can he? Leaving a bunch of rooms like this for himself. Sheng’s and also my mother’s. He’s been living in the memories of the past. Isn’t this very strange?” Ling asked.

”These things must be very important to your dad. That’s why he has maintained them so cautiously. Sometimes, living in memories is also a type of warmth.” Qiluo said.

Ling replies with a saddened face, “Living in memories…will it be warm? Is that so? Is it really that good?”

Ling starts to recall some things his mother said to him when he was young.

-Flashback-

”You guys must not get near your father. Your father is an heartless man who hates children. And he’s very terrifying. Don’t ever depend on him, don’t ever believe what he says. Understand?” Ling’s mother said.

-End of flashback-

”Ling? What’s wrong?” asked Qiluo.

”Nothing.” Ling turns around and sees his father. “Dad, your back.”

”Why are you guys here?” asked Ling’s father.

”Because I wanted to bring Qiluo around and this room happened to be unlocked so we came in. Sorry.” Ling said.

”It’s ok, this is your mother’s room. Of course you can come in.” Ling’s father said.

At dinner.

Ling looks up at his dad for a brief moment. It seems a bit awkward for Qiluo. She looks at Ling and then at his dad.

Ling’s father sees that there seems to be something wrong with Qiluo, “What’s wrong? Not used to the food?”

”It’s very good. Everything’s really good. Just that I don’t know what kind of meat this is.” Qiluo said.

”It’s sheep meat.” Ling’s father said.

”Sheep meat.” Qiluo said.

”It’s Ling’s favorite.” Ling’s father said.

”The one who liked sheep meat was Sheng, not me. But there’s not much of a difference who liked it since we both looked exactly the same anyway.” Ling said.

Qiluo, trying to lighten up the mood, “Ling loves to eat a lot of things like roast fish, roast pork or things like pasta he also really likes. They are all very ordinary. It’s just that he can’t really use chopsticks.”

”Sorry, I can’t even use chopsticks.” Ling said.

”No, that’s not it. Sorry, that’s not what I meant.” Qiluo said.

“You don’t have to explain.” Ling said.

”It’s been awhile since our dining room was so lively. Why don’t you and Qiluo move in together? The apartment is about to be torn down anyway. You and Qiluo still have return to school.” Ling’s father said.

”Return to school?” Qiluo asked confused.

”Yeah. Ling has already decided to stay by my side and learn financing. To be honest, when he told me that he wasn’t going to ride motorcycles anymore, I really breathed a sigh of relief.” Ling’s father said.

Ling and Qiluo are walking in a hallway after dinner.

”Why did you give up motorcycles? Does it have to do with me? Did you agree to give up your most beloved motorcycle in order to help me?” asked Qiluo.

”No. It’s what I decided after I’ve thought about it. You can’t see the future in the world of motorcycles anyway. When I began to seriously think about our marriage, my love for motorcycles cooled off. I think that succeeding in my father’s enterprise isn’t bad.” Ling said.

Qiluo stops Ling, “I really don’t dare to believe that you would say such words.”

”What’s that suppose to mean? The racer me is good and the office me isn’t?” Ling asked.” Ling said.

”No. But isn’t that your dream? Didn’t we agree to pursue our dreams to the end? I think you must have not thought it through clearly. I don’t what you to abandon such an important dream for me. I don’t wish it to be like this.” Qiluo said.

Ling pokes her in the head. “Dummy. It’s not as grand as you think. You know me, I always…say wind is wind, say rain is rain. I’ve never been serious before. You also don’t have make it into something. Enough has happened today and I’m tired. I’m going to go back and take a shower and then sleep.”

In the bedroom

Ling comes out of the bathroom and sees that Qiluo is still awake.

”Why are you still up?”

”I’m not use to it. This place makes me feel a bit uneasy. I can’t fall sleep. I really miss our little ramshackle apartment. I’m definitely going to lose sleep tonight. There’s no way I can sleep. Can I go take a look at Sheng’s room again? There are many paintings there. It’ll keep me busy for a while. And over there it seems that I am able to calm down.” Qiluo said.

“Ok, go.” Ling said.

”Really?”

”Yeah.”

”Do you want to go together?” asked Qiluo.

”You can go.” Ling said.

”Then I’m going to go.” Qiluo said.

”Hey Qiluo, be careful.” Ling said.

Qiluo laughs, “Be careful about what?”

”I don’t know either. Every time I return to this room I would feel weird, but I can’t say what it is.” Ling said.

”Ok, I know. I’m going to go then.” Qiluo said and leaves.

In Sheng’s room

Qiluo looks at all the paintings of Ling.

”They are really all Ling.”

She turns on the light on the desk and sees an abstract painting leaning against the wall.

”This is the only abstract painting.”

She picks it up and observes it. As she runs her figures down the painting, she feels a bump.

”What’s this?” She looks at it closely. “It’s a letter. It can’t be…”

She sits down and cuts the painting open with a knife. There is indeed a letter inside.

In Ling’s mother’s room

Ling turns on the lamp. He looks at the portrait of his mother.

”You…do you really love us?”

Suddenly, the portrait starts to move. His mother turns towards Ling and reaches out her hands. She slowly reaches out for his neck. Ling starts to lean back and then jumps back when the hands were about to grab his neck, but then the hands disappear.

Back to Sheng’s room

Qiluo opens the letter. It reads (Sheng’s voice):

I don’t know who you are, but this means that you’ve already found this letter. Hopefully you aren’t Ling or someone close to him. June 29th, I chose to end my life on this day. Perhaps everyone is confused about my matter, except for one person.

-Flashback-

Sheng is sitting on his bed when Ling comes over.

”Sheng.” Ling calls. “I found something very interesting. Look.” He hands Sheng a photo. “Look at this picture, doesn’t this guy in look a lot like us? Our mother had an affair. And the person she had it with happens to be our dad’s younger brother. So we are actually not the biological sons of our dad, who you greatly respect.”

Sheng is sitting at his desk.

Ling probably would blame himself, thinking that what he said and did drove me to a dead end. But…this actually didn’t hurt me because I’ve known that we weren’t our father’s sons a long time ago. That’s right, a long, long time ago.

Sheng (when he was as teenager) is walking in the streets of L.A.

When we were still in L.A., I already knew. It’s probably not exaggerating to say that I was hit hard by it then. However, how can you control this kind of thing? In fact it already doesn’t matter. It’s ok that we aren’t our father’s biological sons, these problems aren’t even important. What’s important is the problem lying within my heart…because one day I suddenly discovered that inside my heart lives an unsubstantial monster. No matter what I do to suppress this monster, it still disturbs my heart unceasingly. I still remember that year in L.A. That time when he was holding a gun, ready to kill Jack. I actually didn’t feel bad at all.

Sheng is standing behind Ling, who is about to pull the trigger. Shengs smiles and says, “Go to hell.”

Maybe it started from that moment…I realized that I had another cruel self that existed inside my body. At that time, I didn’t know why my heart was pounding incessantly, it seemed like I was awaiting for what was to follow. It was like I was waiting for Ling to blast his head into pieces. It was like waiting to see the excitement… eagerly waiting….when someone talked about life’s dignity, to me, humans are just a bunch of moving pieces of meat. Not beautiful by any means. Furthermore, there’s nothing so dignifying. Beside myself, I only acknowledge Ling’s existence. With Ling, I only have to cry. The weaker I am, the more brutal Ling becomes. It’s like I became more and more destructive through Ling. Ling must have also protected something through me. However, I found that Ling was gradually leaving me. We’ve been together ever since we were born. There’s only a normal me because of Ling. That’s why I was able to be a good child, was able to make myself not let darkness and evilness side of me emerge. I’m afraid of myself. I’m not as strong as Ling, with the courage to face myself. Therefore…before I self-destructed, I ended myself first. Ling, the two of us look alike on the outside, but we are actually completely different, just like the sun and moon, not only completely dependent.

Sheng is standing on top of the school building. There are a bunch of students below, including Sha Zhi.

Sheng: “Very good, hurry up and tell Ling to come.”

Ling reaches the rooftop. He slowly walks towards his twin.

Ling reaches out his hands, “Sheng…come down.” Sheng only looks at him. “Come down,” Ling says desperately.

”We will be together forever. I will wait for you.”

With those last words, Sheng jumps.

-End of flashback-

If only I was as strong as you. At least it allows me to stay in your heart forever. And also letting that pair of monsters live in your heart forever. The two of use will be together forever. I’ll be waiting for you. Ling, if only you can return back to my side a bit earlier…

Qiluo has her hands over her mouth in shock. Suddenly the door closes, making Qiluo jump. She looks around the room a bit spooked.

”Is it you? …Sheng? Is it you?”

Back to Ling’s mother’s room

Ling is sitting on the couch under his mother’s portrait with his head back and eyes closed.

”Why? Why can’t I recall anything? I can’t even remember what kind of mother you were. Why? Why is everything that I remember all unaccountable things?”

-Flashback-

Images of his mother flash through his mine. There are of his mother talking to him, hugging him and Sheng, his father kissing his mother who is lying on the bed, a doctor holding his hands and running, and a door.

-End of flashback-

”Doctor.”

-Flashback-

Doctor: “Here, I’ll give you some candy.”

-End of flashback-

Ling opens his eyes and leaps forward in his seat breathing heavily.

”Why is he my mother’s doctor? Why?”

At the sanatorium

Ling enters the sanatorium and looks at the doors that once called him. When he starts walking towards it, the doctor sees him.

”Ling?” the doctor said.

Ling turns around, “My mom…is also one of your patients?”

They walk around outside.

”It’s been 16 years. That day your father came to consult with me. He said that he didn’t know if he should take a mother with abnormal behaviors to the hospital. A week later, in order to protect you and Sheng, he finally brought your mother here.” The doctor said.

”Protect Sheng and I?” Ling asked.

”Because your mother…wanted to kill you guys.” Ling is shocked. The doctor continues, “What’s lamentable is that your mother only did such a thing because her love for you and Sheng was too extreme. Besides herself, she didn’t believe that anyone would love you guys with all their heart.”

Ling, with his head down, “Then why did she abandon Sheng and I? The truth to my mother’s death…is that she committed suicide right?”

The doctor looks surprised.

At Ling’s house

Qiluo is in the living room. Ling’s dad comes.

”Qiluo.”

”Uncle.”

”Why are you the only one here? Where’s Ling?” asked Ling’s father.

”Oh, he…he went to find Daye,” answered Qiluo.

”Oh.”

”Does Uncle need him for something?” asked Qiluo.

”Nothing special. Young adults living here must be really bored.” Qiluo shakes her head. “Too bad Sheng isn’t here or else you two will get along. He also loves to draw.” Qiluo smiles. “Sheng is like his mother, he also likes pretty things. That’s why she always drew elaborate pictures. Very beautiful.”

”So Ling is more like dad.” Ling’s father stops smiling and Qiluo immediately apologizes. “Sorry.”

”Ling is a lot like his father.”

Back to the sanatorium

”Why did my mom commit suicide? And why did she want to kill Sheng and I?” Ling asked. They were silent for awhile, then Ling continued, “Because she regretted…she regretted having Sheng and I didn’t she?”

”You know already?”

”Sheng and I aren’t our father’s real sons. I knew for a long time. So I guessed right, she really did regret having the two of us.”

”No. It’s the complete opposite. If it weren’t for you guys, your mother wouldn’t have had the courage to live on after your biological father died. Your mother indeed had some mental problems but she never forgot that she needed to love her sons. To be honest, your mother’s way of treating you guys is even more severe than spoiling and was already at the state of illness. This was the reason why your father consulted with me. Whether it was giving or receiving, if it’s excessive love there’s a possibility of it becoming a tragedy.”

-Flashback-

Ling’s mother walks towards the four year old Ling and Sheng with bloody hands. The servant looks terrified.

Ling’s mother, “Give them to me.”

The servant leaves.

Ling’s mother wraps her bloody hands around her children, “It’s ok, mommy already killed it.” Both children are scared and one of them is crying. “It’s ok, don’t need to be afraid.”

Ling’s father is scolding his wife in their bedroom during the night.

Ling’s father, “You actually did something like this in front of the children? What are you thinking?”

Ling’s mother, “It was your dog that attacked my sons. As a mother, of course I have to protect them.”

”That was not attacking. Lin Jie told me that it only wanted to play with the children. Even if it was accidental, there was no need for you to kill it and scare the children like that. Didn’t you see how scared the two of them were?”

”My children know that I love them.”

”Your love…is hurting them. They are already 4 years old and you still don’t let them take one step outside the house, blocking them from having contact with the outside world. Have you ever thought about how the children will face this society, this world, when grow up? What will become of the children’s future? Do you know what you are doing?”

Ling’s mother glared at her husband the entire time and now angrily turns around to face him, “The children are mine, you don’t have to worry.” She gets up to leave but Ling’s dad grabs her arm.

”Xiao Zhi, Xiao Zhi. You are already unsuitable to live with the children. I have a friend. He’s a neuropathy authority. As long as you agree to receive treatment, it’ll help you. Don’t worry; you’ll come back as long as you receive treatment. You should return home very quickly. Listen to me, go receive treatment ok?”

She releases her hands from his grasp, “You won’t to lock me up don’t you? You’ve been thinking of ways to lock me up because in front of your dad you can’t raise your head. Now that’s he’s dead, you can finally retaliate as you please right? I won’t let you deceit and be satisfied. I’m going to take Ling and Sheng away from this place.”

She turns around to leave but her husband grabs her once again.

”No!”

”Let go! Let go!” Ling’s mother screams.

”Right now you aren’t qualified to take care of them! You don’t qualify to be a mother!”

”You think you are qualified to be their father?! Ling and Sheng are Xiao Yan’s children! They are the children of your dead little brother! Don’t be hypocritical, I won’t let you have a chance to get revenge even if I die.” She shakes off his hands and heads for the door. “Leave. If you want to leave then leave. I absolutely will not give the children to you.”

”You dare?! I’m their mother. I gave birth to them!”

”They are the Chen family’s children. I can’t see them be ruined by you. Xiao Zhi, admit it, you’re ill.”

Ling’s mother is sitting in her room in the sanatorium. Ling’s father comes to visit her. When she sees who it is, she turns back to look out the window.

Doctor: “After this incident, your father finally made the decision to have your mother come here. During her treatment, her condition didn’t improve. Instead, it became more and more severe. She often told people that your father is a cold and terrifying person.”

-End of flashback-

“What exactly made my mother become this way?” asked Ling.

"Personality and pressure. After all, your mother first rebelled against her marriage and then lost the person she loved. In her heart, she firmly believes that all these tragedies are her punishments. So when your father was good to her and you guys, it makes her sink into an enormous panic and uneasiness.

At Ling’s backyard

Ling’s father: “Xiao Yan had an unexplainable charm. Wherever he was there would be laughter. Even my father, who is stern privately and during work, didn’t know what to do with him. Everyone loved him ever since he was young. They are especially fond of him. It was something I couldn’t get no matter how hard I tried. I heard that Ling is also like this. An old classmate of mine is Teacher Shi at your school. He told me that when Ling’s in the class it would be full of energy.”

Qiluo agrees, “As long as there’s Ling the atmosphere would be especially good.”

”Ling is actually a good child.”

”Uncle has always been very cautious of Ling’s every move right?” asked Qiluo.

”He’s my brother’s child afterall, my only relative right now. Actually, I’ve doubted once. Do I really not hate my brother? Can I really raise his children like they are mine? If I said that I didn’t hate my brother at all I would be lying because all the love was on him. There was even a time when I thought how good it would be if there wasn’t Xiao Yan.”

”Sorry, I want to ask…how did Ling’s father passed away?”

Ling’s father takes Qiluo to a room.

”Find a seat.” Ling’s father said.

He takes a photo album out and hands it to Qiluo.

”This is Ling’s father.”

Qiluo looks at Ling’s biological father, who is on a motorcycle. “So Ling’s father was also…”

Ling’s father nods, “My father really loved Xiao Yan. Everything went his way. He wanted to race and he let him get a license. He wanted a car and he would buy a car for him. It didn’t matter when or what, he would always get want he wanted. But I never thought that the result of him doing whatever he liked would be a dead road. Xiao Yan died on the racetrack. I didn’t know that Xiao Zhi was pregnant until later. Even though no one revealed it, but they were Xiao Yan’s children, that’s right. I was thinking then, can I really take care of my brother’s posthumous sons?”

Back to the sanatorium

”Did my father never hate my mother?” asked Ling.

”We are not sure how Mr. Chong Zhi truly feels but during your mother’s treatment, we also did some physiological tests on him at the same time. His love for you guys is genuine because Mr. Chong Zhi is sterile. He really wanted to be a father. But when your mother found out that he was sterile, she started to gradually understand Mr. Chong Zhi’s inner wound. It was also because of this that your mother slowly had improvements. So…a few weeks before her death she passed them very happily, very peacefully.” A tear falls from Ling’s eyes. “However…”

”However, my mother still would rather choose death. Would rather choose death. To follow my biological father’s footsteps, abandoning Sheng and I, abandoning my father…in order to chase a person that’s already dead…isn’t this kind of behavior too foolish?” Ling wipes away his tears and continues, “Then my father and I are the same, we are both people that would be abandoned by others.”

Back to Ling’s dad and Qiluo

”Ling’s mother didn’t die because of illness. She committed suicide to follow Xiao Yan. Perhaps Ling already knows the truth.” Ling’s father said.

-Flashback-

Ling’s father brings Ling and Sheng to the sanatorium to visit their mother. But when they enter the room, Ling’s father finds his wife’s hands full of blood. He immediately rushes over to her.

Ling’s father: “Xiao Zhi. Hurry up and call the doctor! Take the children outside! Xiao Zhi, Xiao Zhi, wake up, Xiao Zhi, Xiao Zhi…Xiao Zhi…Xiao Zhi…” He receives no answer…he slowly leans down and kisses her goodbye.

-End of flashback-

”But after our family gone through such a huge change, I didn’t know what I should do. I didn’t know…” Ling’s father starts to cry. “I didn’t know what I had to do…to be able to be a true father. I didn’t do it.”

Back to the sanatorium

Doctor: “Xiao Zhi’s death affect on your dad surpassed you and your brother. After all, Xiao Zhi was the only woman he loved in his life. I recommended that your father send you guys to L.A. Although he has always wanted to raise you guys personally, but until he’s able to cope with his own feekings, I didn’t approve of you guys living with him. Your father is a very great, very strong, person. Except that people are ironically not as strong as they imagine. Ling, even though life is limited but our hearts still forges ahead without limits.”

The doctor pats Ling on the shoulder.

Ling is going back home. Suddenly Qiluo appears in front of him. A smile can been seen on both of their faces.

Ling: “Why are you here?”

Qiluo walks over to him and they hold hands. “Didn’t you leave a message saying that you were coming back? So I came to pick you up. What happened?”

”Chatted a lot with the doctor.”

”Then?”

”Then? My heart is like the Pacific Ocean.”

Qiluo laughs, “Really? I also chatted with Uncle for a while today. Oh yeah, I saw many photos from before and also many pictures of your biological father.”

”Lots of pictures of my biological father? How come I’ve only seen one?”

”I also don’t know,” said Qiluo.

”Oh well, it has passed already, I’m not interested.” Qiluo laughs. “What are you laughing about?”

”Nothing. I just think that we are very happy like this. I just want to walk on hand in hand.”

”Ok. We’ll keep on walking like this can see who can’t move anymore first,” suggested Ling.

”That will no be me,” said Qiluo.

”Don’t give me that, in the end it definitely will be you who play rely, making me carry you.”

”No.”

”Yes.”

”Then we’ll keep on walking. We’ll keep on going when we turn,” said Qiluo.

”When we get to the next intersection we’ll keep on walking.”

”After we pass our house we’ll keep on walking.”

”We won’t return, we’ll keep on walking.”

”Yeah, keep on walking, keep on walking.”

”Ok, it’s fine with me,” Ling said confidently.

”You will definitely be the first to be unable to move.”

”You will definitely tell me to carry you.”

At the sanatorium

A nurse is talking to Tong Dao.

“We’ll go back to some past memories again. When you were young, you should have grown up in an environment full of love. Can you tell me any happy memories you had with your parents?”

”Happy memory…”

The nurse helps him out, “For example, on your 5th birthday your parents invited many people to hold a very big celebration party. Were you happy?”

”That time? I thought the ones who were happy were my parents, not me.”

”You didn’t feel happy?”

”Not at all,” answered Tong Dao.

”Why?”

”Don’t know.”

”I’ll change the question. From before until now, what do you think is the most painful experience you had? For instance, many people bullied you when you were young. Why don’t you talk about this painful feeling?” asked the nurse.

”The feeling…there wasn’t really any painfulness or no painfulness.”

”Was it sorrow?”

”What’s sorrow?” asked Tong Dao.

”Ever since you remember, you never felt sad?” Tong Dao doesn’t answer. “How about when your parents passed away? Then how about Qing Mu?”

Tong Dao has his head down and starts to shed tears.

The nurse is talking with the doctor.

Doctor: “Fan Tong Dao?”

”Yes,” replied the nurse. “When I was just talking to him awhile ago, in the beginning gave no responses at all. But when I mentioned the friend he killed, Zheng Qing Mu, he actually cried and it was immediately too.”

”Have you examined him previously? He was had symptoms of lying.“

”During this time that I talked to him, this kind of symptom never appeared. It’s only memory-wise that he doesn’t respond with feelings. But he would shed tears for Zheng Qing Mu. I personally think that it’s a very optimistic improvement.”

Tong Dao is lying on his bed.

Tong Dao: “Tears is liquid that falls from the tear duct as a result of being touched and provoked mentally. A world of theories is really stupid. But it seems like the stupider things are, the easier it is to deceit people.

He starts to laugh.

Ling’s father’s girlfriend is driving Qiluo somewhere.

Ling’s father’s girlfriend is on the phone, “Ok, see you later. Bye bye.” She hangs up. “Sorry, I’ve been talking on the phone.”

”It’s ok,” said Qiluo.

”How is it? Everything going smoothly?”

”Yes, Uncle called the principle, everything’s fine.”

”You originally wouldn’t have had problems. Your performance in school is so good. Regarding the issue about you going to a research institute, I just talked to chairman through the phone. He said that it’s all up to you whether or not you want to study; he’s only responsible for the support. But…he really hopes that you can go to a research institute.”

”Uncle is really considerate and understanding,” Qiluo complimented.

”If this is really what you think, why aren’t you guys moving back to live with him? I heard that you guys moved back to Po Gong Wan.”

”Yeah, because after all Ling and I haven’t married yet and…”

”And what?”

”And that house is really very huge. It’s like a maze.”

”That house is indeed a bit huge.”

”If Ling and Uncle’s relationship can be more friendly, I think that the house will become more comfortable.”

”It’s already not simple for Ling, a person that doesn’t like to be controlled, to actually be like a puppet, letting others control him.”

”Puppet?”

Ling is getting measured at a store. He has a suit on and he doesn’t seem to feel so comfortable in it.

”Hey, do you have any jeans?” Ling asked the lady, who gave him a “what?” look. “I’m just kidding with you.”

Ling’s father’s girlfriend is filling Ling in on the business world.

”We’ll start with the basics, business activity method. You might ask me, what business activity method is. It’s really simple. We have to remember its English name, that is SWOP.” Ling is taking notes as she’s talking. “When someone wants to buy something he or she will have his or her own opinions. Let me tell you what a OAK territory is. Our so called…” She taps on the white board with the marker to get Ling’s attention, who is bored out of his mind. “Are you listening? You need to ask if you don’t understand. When talking about the structural concept of an enterprise it involved this money. Afterwards the SWOP section…”

Qingmei is trying to help Ling out.

Ling: “What’s SWOP?”

”You don’t even know that?” said Qingmei shocked. “You sleep longer than I thought during class. I really don’t know how you studied until now.”

”I don’t know why I had to ask you to be my tutor.”

”Hahaha, who taught you to tell Daye to go work and not have any time. Hey, such a big level difference, it’s too hard to be a tutor. I’m telling you, I’m not going to be your tutor for free. Since your family’s company is so big, it manages electronics. How about it?”

”Forget it…I’m going to tell Daye to come,” said Ling.

”Hey, why do you have to be like that? I was just kidding. Ok…come on…this triangle is the so-called enterprise theory. What does this triangle make you think of?” Ling smiles. “Look at your naughty face. I know what you are thinking about. Come on, seriously. Look at this. Suppose that principle and restrictions are said to be in an enterprise. Do you understand?”

Qiluo comes out with food, “Dinner. I cooked Italian pasta. Eat first and then continue later.”

”Wow…amazing,” Qingmei praised.

”Eat first,” Qiluo said to Ling.

”Do you need help?” asked Qingmei.

”It’s ok, I already ate some already,” said Qiluo.

”Eat first,” Qiluo said to Ling again.

”What’s wrong? Is it because your answer is wrong?” asked Qingmei.

”No. Strange, my eyes don’t seem to be in focus,” said Ling.

”Are you ok?” Qiluo puts her hand on his forehead. “You have fever.”

”Really?” He feels his own forehead.

Ling is lying on the bed. Qiluo brings him a glass of water.

”Do you want to take some medicine? Or do you want me to take you to the doctor.” asked Qiluo.

”It’s not that serious,” said Ling.

”But you have a fever.”

”Don’t worry, this is called overworking syndrome. It’s nothing.”

”Why are you in such a rush? You can’t remember an entire semester of information in one breath,” said Qiluo.

”Actually having a fever and heating up a bit is like an engine. You have to heat up first before you can get on the road and fight.”

Qingmei hits him lightly on the leg, “Who compares a motorcycle and brain?”

”I can’t always humiliate him,” said Ling. “After all, the blood inside my body is the same as my dad. So as long as dad can, then I can definitely do it. Wait and see. One day I will wear a types of suits just like those celebrities. Then be like my dad.”

”So you think Uncle is very strong and very handsome?” asked Qiluo.

”I’m only borrowing your words to talk ok? It’s hot. I’m going to go out for some fresh air.”

”You’re going out?”

“I’m going to go to the park to get sober.”

”Then come back quickly, you still haven’t eaten.”

”Ok.”

He leaves.

Qiluo is washing the dishes.

Qingmei brings some more dishes, “There’s still these. Today your pasta was really good..”

”Really? Hey, I cut some fruit.”

”Thanks,” said Qingmei.

”Why isn’t Ling back yet?”

”Go find him, I’ll wash them,” said Qingmei.

”Then I’ll have to bother you. Thank you.”

Qiluo goes to the park to find Ling.

Qiluo calls out to him, “Ling!”

He’s watching people ride motorcycles and doesn’t hear her. He’s smiling as he watches.

Daye stops in front of Qingmei and Qiluo in his new motorcycles.

Daye: “Hi!”

Qiluo: “Daye. You bought a new motorcycle?”

”Heh heh, in the future please call me the independent roaming freely all over the world rider.”

”Roam your head,” said Qingmei.

”Today Qiluo and we…”

”Oh, we are eating together. You can leave first,” said Qingmei.

”You don’t need me to drive you today? Then why didn’t you tell me earlier? If I knew earlier I would’ve drove with the motorcycle team. You really don’t need me to drive you?”

”No, you can go.”

”Then I’m going to go.”

”Bye bye,” said Qiluo.

”Be careful,” said Qingmei.

”Bye bye,” said Daye as he drove away.

”It’s enough. Ever since he bought a new motorcycle he’s been like this. I really hope that he doesn’t lose all bearings in moment of pride and satisfaction and get into an accident.”

”Don’t worry. Daye and Ling are different, he isn’t the type of person that only desires speed.”

Qingmei nods. “Let’s go eat.”

”Ok,” answered Qiluo after a brief moment.

”What’s wrong?”
