My Rosy Life

This is a sad and tragic korean drama about Sun-yi and her life.  Sun-yi dropped out of school when she was young so that she could take care of her father and work hard so she could pay for her brother and sister's tuition. Her mother abandoned their family when Sun-yi was only 10 years old.  Sun-yi had to endure so many hardships since she was the oldest.  She had to pinch every penny she had because money was always tight.  Sun-yi wasn't always warm to everyone because she had to set aside her emotions to take care of the family, ensure that there was food to eat and a place to live.

Just when life couldn't get any worse, Sun-yi's husband demands a divorce from her after ten years of marriage.  He had an affair and fell in love with a divorced woman.  After so many years of taking care of her father, siblings, and raising her own young children Sun-yi neglected to take care of herself.  Her health was poor and she soon came to learn the realization that she had cancer.

Sun-yi's brother, who now lived in the United States, refuses to take care of their father who is now also very ill. All Sun-yi's hard work to help him become a doctor, he abandons the family as well.  Sun-yi learns that her sister is having an affair with a married man.  Sun-yi is outraged and tells her sister that her sister cannot destroy someone else's life someone else did the same to Sun-yi.

Sun-yi decides she must be strong and carry on the best she can until her last breath.  Her husband's mistress eventually leaves him and he gets the bitter taste of reality when he regrets the life he lost with Sun-yi.  In a desperate attempt to win Sun-yi back ... he finds he is almost too late because she is dying.

This drama is a tear jerker and some parts of the drama will outrage you.  I have to admit, after I watched this drama I was so angry at men (cheating men). I cried so much watching this drama.  This drama really hits so many spots of emotions on so many various levels.

Special Notes
The actress Choi Jin Sil starred in this drama because she too went through a similar life event when her real life husband cheated on her and divorced her.  Her portrayal of Sun-Yi was superb and it was so emotional.  Choi Jin Sil committed suicide in October of 2008.  Although she is gone, her memory still lives on through the wonderful dramas that she gave her heartfelt talent.  She will be sorely missed.
