Who is the biggest korean drama addict in the world?

So who is the biggest korean drama addict in the world? Haha, I don't know the answer to this one.  But I'd like to believe it is me, Krystalheart.  LOL!

Over the years, I've collected about 100-150 dramas.  I collect korean drama boxsets.  I have a special shelf in my bedroom that I carefully place all of my beloved boxsets.  Not all korean dramas are available on DVD with english subtitles, so I have to go to great lengths to get them to a format that I can watch!  I guard my korean drama boxsets with my life!  You might not be suffering "korean drama addiction syndrome" quite to the extent that I have, but haha maybe you are close.

Nothing beats a warm blanket, chilling on my couch, and watching an awesome korean drama on TV. I'm extremely picky because I prefer to watch dramas on my TV and not actually sitting here on my computer.  I find that I get easily distracted if I'm watching a korean drama streaming online. Plus, the online quality isn't as good as if you're 100% focused on a drama on tv.  I go to great lengths to feed my addiction to korean dramas.

Let's see... here are some of the crazy things I've done for dramas (in no particular order):

  • I own Stairway to Heaven in 6 different formats (raw avi, fob fansubbed avi, VCD english hardsubbed, KBFD, VHS dubbed in my language, YesAsia original boxset).
  • I skipped my college classes to watch Stairway to Heaven (raw avi version, yes I was desperate).
  • I bought a new computer just so I could convert raw avi + subs to VCD/DVD and watch on tv.
  • I wanted to see Ruler of Your Own World so bad that I first started watching it from Totuta's wmv files.  Then I got the drama off the torrents and converted it to VCD so I could watch. After that I bought the DVD from Yesasia.
  • I really went crazy when I wanted Meteor Garden 2 (okay this is Taiwanese drama) and I searched for days online and bought a DVD set from a girl in the Phillippines. I almost fainted the day I got the DVD set, felt like the happiest day of my whole life... then I watched the drama and it was like the worst moment ever.... lol read about that experience here!
  • I started learning to speak Korean.
  • I write down my favorite moments and quotes from korean dramas.
  • I also make screenshots and wallpapers of my favorite korean dramas.
  • When my friends want to borrow my dramas, I make a copy of the DVD first before lending them out because some never return dramas to me. *sad face*
  • There were many years of my life where I didn't know what songs were even popular on the radio because my music playlist only consisted of korean drama soundtracks.  LOL.
  • I don't know or speak korean but I do understand the basic conversational dialog.  Hahaha except when I'm listening to a really good song, I can only make out the easy words.
  • When watching a drama, I always have tissue nearby.  OMG I am so not kidding on this one. hehe.
  • I tend to talk outloud or to myself when watching a korean drama. I say things like, "Omg ... again?" or "What a f*cken b*tch!" hahaha
  • Usually I fantasize about the cute handsome hero saying "I Love You", "I Miss You" to me.  ROLFLMAO
  • I see the food they eat in dramas, then when I go to my local korean drama grocery store I quiz the korean owner and ask him how I can make those same dishes.  haha he tells me to buy the cookbooks on sale.  lol, I bought them and always ask him when he's getting new ones in.
  • I've been searching forever for a sweater like the one Eun Chae wore "I'm Sorry I Love You".  Not kidding.  I want one.
  • I was infatuated with every leading man in korean dramas, until I fell in love with So Ji Sub as Moo-hyuk in "I'm Sorry I Love You."
  • I love So Ji Sub -------
  • I cried when my friend got to see So Ji Sub in New York City at the asian film festival.  Someday before I die, I just want to see him in person once. I don't care if it's from far away ... I just want my eyes to see him and my heart to be fulfilled.
  • I was sad and depressed I couldn't get tickets to see Rain when he came to the US. His concerts were sold out.
  • LOL... I'm starting to go off into a tangent so I'll end it here. haha.  I made this website for me and for all korean drama fanatics addicted to our beloved dramas.

I think you are here on my website because you, too are just as addicted as I am to wonderful korean dramas!

I'd love to hear your stories and where your korean drama addiction level is at :-)

Am I the only one who's this crazy?

Although I only "discovered" Korean dramas in 2008, I am so addicted and such a Korean drama freak today. I do watch some Japanese, Taiwanese, and Cantonese dramas, but it's the Korean dramas that interest me the most.
Ever since I started watching Korean dramas, I have become totally immersed in the Korean culture as a whole. I started listening to Kpop and getting updated with all the popular celebrities. I started reading news on English Kpop sites (although most stuff isn't even consdered real news). I went on multiple forums to look for Korean drama recommendations so that I don't waste my time watching a bad drama. I even started learning Korean through many online websites and when I'm bored, I write random Korean words. Even with Korean food and hanboks, I feel like an expert at all this stuff thanks to my love for Korean dramas.
I feel like Korean dramas really do let you watch someone else's life as well as the joy and pain that come along. In addition, Korean dramas make me laugh and cry, sharing the emotions of the main characters in the drama. Although after a while, plots kind of become cliche and I can pretty much figure out what's gonna happen, there are always those dramas that really leave deep impressions on me. These dramas make all of the dramas worthwhile to watch. Korean dramas are also VERY different from American TV shows in a good way, because there's clean humor and all the sex and swearing stuff isn't as prominent, which makes Korean dramas even better to watch!
Such a love for Korean dramas & Kpop even got me into working for an English blogging website, writing about new happenings in the Kpop world.
My family and friends even call me crazy for my obsession to Kpop and Korean dramas. My parents are always mumbling about how I'm gonna marry a Korean guy and how I should just move to Korea if I love it so much (I'm actually thinking of doing that a few years after I'm out of college). And now, instead of looking on websites for recommended dramas to watch, I'm the one that's doing the recommendation! It has only been two years since I've started watching Korean dramas, but that doesn't make me seem like a newbie in this area of expertise. My friends are always asking me if I've seen a certain drama so that they can get my input on it. And now when I meet new people, they ask me if I'm Korean because I'm constantly ranting on and on about Korean stuff. Even my closest friends say that they'd think I was Korean if they didn't know me.
I guess, to sum up this comment, Korean dramas have REALLY changed my life. These days, I'm always swooning over the hottest actors and I'm always watching dramas, even if I may be a bit busy. I guess dramas really complete my life. Although my parents always see it as wasting time, I don't feel like I'm completely lazy. My dad's always telling me to just watch the first and last episode but then I would miss all the events that happen in between! I know that so and so will be together in the end, but I want to see HOW they get there. Other times, my parents will tell me that every single drama is the same, but although there are cliches, every drama is different in its own way.
I even keep a list of every drama I watch with the date that I finished it, and so far, I've seen about 90 dramas (Korean, Japanese, Chinese) ever since February of 2008!
Hmm..maybe I AM crazy..but anyhow, I love dramas! And Asian dramas in general have the cutest quotes. You never find that in American stuff. :/

Believe me you are not the only crazy one. My korean co-worker always tells me she thinks I was korean in another life. Alot of the things you do I do also, but I have the food thing really bad. Whenever I am in the mood to watch a korean drama I go buy korean food for the occasion. I listen to my korean drama OSTs so much that I am very behind on the latest songs. I just ordered the korean language from Rosetta Stone (I'm so excited). I know the Korean celebrities better than the American ones. I am an addict and have been for a while now. This is the best site ever KH because it allows me to be with like people.

I can relate to the things that you have done for your dramas....some of yours are quite a few of mine.  Most of the CDs in my car are OSTs. :)  My ipod is mostle kpop & jpop.  Not sure when I made the transition to liking Asian culture but most people say that I must be an Asian person reincarnated.  I like diversity so I guess that is where the love comes from.  Your site is very nice and it gives all of us addicts somewhere to post and also get ideas of new dramas to watch.  Thanks!!!

Hi ClassicHoon! :-) Thanks for your comment. I really do love dramas and I'm so happy to be able to find other people who share common interests! For the longest time, I loved dramas but the people I knew in my everyday life were not interested. That's why I started this website in 2002 so that I could share my emotions and joy with other drama lovers.  It's kind of funny when the same people I knew who used to not care about dramas tell me that they are now addicted to dramas.  I'm like, "where were you 10 years ago!" haha.

Maybe Korean dramas are easily accesible in the Internet. Some addicts are watching dramas tru the Internet and its very good. The power of the internet is unlimited. It has evolved into something of global demand as more people are leaving the traditional ways of communicating and running to the internet to give ‘fast’ and ‘convenience’ a whole new meaning. These dramas are usually having message, or in other terms "theme" of it.Its a great opportunity for us to have this kind of technology!

Hi oklana, this is the reason why I love the internet! The ability to get dramas from across the globe! Before the internet, we are at the mercy of the tv stations in our areas and from the products that are sold in our areas. I'm so happy there is the internet now.  I surely remember life before the internet.
